26 Mar All You Need To Know About Roof Installation
So you’ve chosen your color, style of Owens Corning Shingle, and the weather is cooperating. What happens now? In this article, I will describe what you can expect from Toye Contracting during the roof installations process. These steps will apply to the majority of our roof replacement clients.
We are constantly watching the weather for what I call build days. We will typically begin planning your new roof installation a week ahead of time. This gives us and our supplier time to make sure everything needed to install your roof is available. We try to time the delivery of materials within one or two days before our crew begins installing the roofing materials on your home. Weather is pretty unpredictable, so, unfortunately, there are times when materials will sit on your property longer than two days. If this is the case, we will make sure to let you know.
Tearing Off The Old Roof
As a production manager, this part of the build is the most stressful part of the roof installation. We strive to complete your project within our quoted price. Sometimes during this phase, we will run into problems that could raise the cost of your roof replacement. If this happens with your roof, we will stop all work and speak with you about options before continuing so that there are no surprises. We want to make sure you are made aware of any issues that may arise. For the homeowner, roof tear off will be the loudest and most intrusive part of the process. You can expect to hear a lot of banging, scraping, creaking, and see large piles of debris. Be patient, although this phase is messy, we will leave your property as clean as it was before we began work.
Roof Accessories Installation
When I use the term accessories, I am talking about all roofing components installed prior to installing new shingles. This includes ice and water barrier, synthetic roof underlayment, metal flashing, and starter shingles. This is also a noisy phase due to using manual fasteners to secure each of these elements to your roof deck. The duration of this phase depends on the complexity of your roof. If your roof has a lot of different faces, this process could take some time.
This is the final phase of your new roof installation. You can expect to see members of the crew begin to clean up your property while the other members of the crew are installing your new shingles. Much like the roof accessories installation, the time to completion will vary depending on the complexity of your roof. In the hotter months of the year, we may install the roof accessories on day one and then come back the following day to finish installing the shingles. While we realize that this may be an inconvenience, we take the safety of our crew seriously. High temperatures are not only dangerous to our crew but also make your new shingles vulnerable to scuffing on very hot sunny days. Once the crew is finished installing your new roof, they will clean out any debris that may have accumulated in your gutters and around your yard. The final step of the cleanup is to use a magnetic roller to pick up as many nails as possible. It’s nearly impossible to get them all, so if you happen to notice or see lots nails on property still, give us a call and we will come right out to take care of them.
